Projekt "Feuerbarke"

"Auf einem schwarzen, glänzenden Gewässer wird ein zart leuchtender Schiffskörper sichtbar"

Erinnerungen an die Mythologien des Altertums und verschiedener Kulturen stellen sich ein und vermischen sich zu einer neuen Wirklichkeit. Da ist zum einen der schwarze Unterweltfluss, die Styx, Charon und das Fahrzeug, das Übersetzen in eine andere Welt - zum andern das Licht, den Menschen gebracht von Prometheus, dem Herrn der Künste.

Ein langes, auf dem Wasser schwimmendes Bambusgerüst von mässiger Höhe wird durch die Seidenbahnen zu einem Schiffsrumpf. Das Objekt besteht aus zwei ineinander gedrehten, gewundenen Flügeln, gewissermassen einem Flügelpaar. Im Zentrum des Gerüstes liegt eine geschmiedete Kupferschale, in der ein Licht brennt.

Das Objekt wird nicht verbrannt.

Workshop: "Bamboo - a miracle of nature"

with Simon Velez, July 31 - August 13, 2000

In co-operation with the Centre Georges Pompidou the Vitra Design Museum
offers the workshop "Bamboo - A miracle of nature" conducted by Simón Vélez.

In May the book Grow your own house - Simón Vélez and bamboo architecture
will be published. The focus is on the work of Simón Vélez, who is the most
renowned contemporary architect working with bamboo. Alongside Vélez's
oeuvre the book offers exhaustive documentation on the pinnacle of his work
to date, namely the ZERI pavilion at Expo 2000 in Hanover.
With essays by Jean Dethier, Walter Liese, Eda Schaur, Frei Otto and Matteo
Kries.

We have the pleasure to announce our bamboo day 2000 which will be held on May 20 in the region of Basel:

10:00
Meeting at the Naturschutzzentrum G99 at Weil am Rhein near Basel.
Welcome and apéro.
Guided tour through the centre and the surrounding grounds.

Departure to the garden of Caspar Dürig at the "Schlipf".
Snack and Coffee.

14:30
Mr. Martin Flüeler demonstrates that bamboo is not only a plant.

16:30
Possibly auction of rare plants to the benefit of EBS Switzerland.

Registration and lectures in Falmouth College of Arts. Lunch at Carwinion. Visit the gardens of Trebah and Penjerrick. Supper at Carwinion.

Visit the garden and agricultural implement museum of Trevarno. Lunch at Trevarno. Lectures in Falmouth College of Arts. Supper at Carwinion.

Sunday 20 August:

Visit the Eden Project nursery and site at St. Austell. Afternoon at leisure - we suggest a visit to the gardens of Heligan or Endsleigh.
